INGA GUZYTE - Artists - Sullivan Goss Art Gallery

Lifting Spirits, 2021
42 x 43 x 1.5 inches  |  used skateboard decks

Inga Guzyte is a self-taught artist known for her unique approach to mixed media sculpture. Her practice includes deconstructing old skateboards and transforming them into intricate portraits, primarily celebrating women in pop culture and history. According to the artist, her passion for using decks as her artistic medium is deeply rooted in her childhood in Germany, where skate culture was extremely prominent. Guzyte utilizes the original color, texture, and graphics on the decks to create a dimensional appearance that seconds as a storytelling component.

Guzyte was Lithuanian born and raised in West Germany before immigrating to the United States. She obtained an Associates of Art degree in Art Studio Emphasis and graduated with honors from Santa Barbara City College. The artist has now exhibited across the world, showing primarily in Los Angeles, Santa Barbara, and New York. In 2022, Guzyte was a finalist in the Outwin Boochever Portrait Competition at the National Portrait Gallery in Washington, D.C.
