OPENING RECEPTION: FRIDAY, OCTOBER 24, 2003, FROM 5 - 7PM 1266 Coast Village Road, Montecito
Sullivan Goss, Ltd. would like to announce a new exhibition of small oil paintings by Hank Pitcher. A limited edition hard cover book is being published in conjunction with the exhibition. SURF includes an essay by Bolton Coburn, director of the Laguna Art Museum and includes twenty-two reproductions from the exhibition. The book will go on sale at the reception for the show, where the artist will be on hand to sign copies.
In his essay from the upcoming book "Surf," Bolton Colburn writes: "Pitcher’s work reflects the legacy of California plein-air painting from early twentieth-century impressionism to regional scene painting of the 1930s and 1940s, sharing the earlier artists’ penchant for painting on the spot out of doors. Like the scene painters, Pitcher chooses recreational activities for his subject matter, imbuing his work with a sense of immediacy and awe for the natural environment."
