Sullivan Goss - An American Gallery is pleased to announce our second solo exhibition for Mary-Austin Klein.
For Airspace Mary-Austin continues to bring the landscape to light in a quiet and mighty way. Widescreen views are painted in high detail on more diminutive panels enabling a collector to take home a piece of the larger world. Peace abounds in the pictured spaces of recreation and meditation. Her artistic aesthetic is atmospheric at times, evoking a sense of memory within the present moment. Klein's artwork masterfully captures the essence of serene landscapes, leaving figures as mere footnotes in their own stories. The true protagonists are the landscapes themselves, accentuated by expansive skies and open spaces, space above and space all around. In a world brimming with noise, Klein's paintings are an ode to tranquility revealed in the almost tangible stillness of a desert at dusk or a cerulean sky where even the clouds tiptoe through so as not to disturb.
Having spent more time in Santa Barbara in the last few years, Klein approaches her work with a renewed appreciation for the region’s beauty. With meticulous detail, her art reveals the magical interplay that takes place in the space between the mountains and the ocean; a geographical weather zone that creates atmospheric events unique to this part of the West Coast, creating an airspace perfect for paintings.
